Sugar-Coated Donuts

Gary Cooper, a professor at NYU and the editor of The Surprise, was just recently immortalized as the subject of an amusing chapter on editing in the book Shoot Me, by Rocco Simonelli and Roy Frumkes. In the book Gary is said to have the most desirable quality in an editor, namely that “he couldn’t sugar-coat a donut, even if he worked at Krispy Kreme.” The book is being published by Allworth Press.
